Yesterday, Ron and I went to the historic French town of St. Genevieve, just about an hour south of St. Louis, Missouri on Hwy 63. We stayed at The Inn St Gemme Beauvais, an elegant Bed and Breakfast right in the historic district. The Inn itself has a history dating all the way back to the 1700s. Today it is owned and operated by Cathy and Jan Brans.
As you know, one of the best parts of staying at a B&B is indeed the breakfast and we were not the least disappointed. In fact, guests have their choice of several delicious sounding breakfasts. Janet Joggerst (a 5th generation St. Genevieve native!) is their baker and Cathy is the chef. Ron and I chose the Blueberry Muffin Bread and Stuffed French Toast. Need I say both were wonderful? The Stuffed French Toast was unique to us and that’s why we chose it. It’s made from their homemade French bread, cut into large slices, and stuffed with a mixture of cream cheese, pecans, and vanilla. It’s then dipped in egg and crushed corn flakes; sautéed slowly on both sides; and served with a strawberry jam glaze and a dusting of powdered sugar. Wow!
